Monday, January 22 2018 4:00 PM

Residents interested in learning what it takes to be a Colleyville Police Officer can get hands-on experience through the Citizens’ Police Academy.

Colleyville Police’s Class XVI begins on Feb. 22 and the department will begin accepting applications on Monday, Jan. 8.

The class meets weekly on Thursdays from 7-10 p.m. through May 10. There are 11 classes with one ride-along, and a graduation banquet. This free program is open to Colleyville residents and business owners 18 years old or older and is designed to acquaint them with the roles and responsibilities of the department. Participants will observe presentations by the narcotics task force, criminal investigation division, tactical unit, and more. Students also take part in practical exercises by making mock traffic stops and building searches.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 12 or until the class is full. Seats are limited.

Graduates may join the Alumni Association and participate in additional training to be eligible as a Citizen on Patrol.

Applications may be mailed or dropped off at the Colleyville Justice Center, 5201 Riverwalk Dr., Colleyville, Texas. Attn: Detective Jeff Prater. For questions, please contact Detective Jeff Prater at 817.503.1269 or
