Recycling Program

Colleyville uses 65-gallon wheeled carts for its single-stream curbside residential recycling program. With almost four times the capacity of the old 18-gallon bins, the carts offer more room for additional recycling and the added convenience of rolling the cart to the street or curbside. The carts also have the added advantage of an attached lid keeping materials from blowing away or getting wet in inclement weather.

Residents can swap their 65-gallon recycle cart for a 95-gallon cart at no additional cost by calling CWD at 972.392.9300. If your cart is damaged and in need of repair or replacement, call CWD at 972.392.9300.

Service Guidelines

• Have your cart curbside or at the street by 7:00 a.m. on your collection day (See map for collection days)
• Place the cart at least three feet from any vehicle or structure such as mailboxes, utility meters, poles, fences, etc. This allows room for the automated truck to pick up the cart.
• The front of the cart (non-handle side) should be facing the street. The cart must be placed close enough to the curb or street for the truck to reach it.
• All recycle materials should be contained within the cart and the lid should be closed.

Does my recycling have to fit inside my cart?
All loose recyclables must be placed in the cart with the lid closed.

Why can’t Styrofoam be recycled?
Styrofoam is made of 98% air and 2% polystyrene. The fact that this plastic has been expanded with air makes the collection, storage, and processing of Styrofoam for recycling extremely complicated. Styrofoam absorbs liquid, so once a to-go box or cup has contained food or liquid, it becomes contaminated and cannot be recycled. This means that all Styrofoam food and beverage containers are not recyclable. Beyond that, even if the original Styrofoam has not come into contact with liquid or food, as with packing materials, it still has to be kept dry and clean to be recycled. Since Styrofoam is so easily contaminated, it would require an enclosed, protected area to keep it from getting wet--something most recycling centers do not have.

Electronic Recycling - computers and TVs
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, more than 200 million pieces of computer-related e-waste are generated annually but only 18 percent of it is recycled. State law now requires television and computer equipment manufacturers to offer opportunities for consumer to recycle these electronics. Texas has two programs requiring manufacturers to recycle computers and televisions through free shipping or drop-off programs. For information, visit TexasRecyclesTVs.org or TexasRecyclesComputers.org. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality also offers a toll-free helpline for questions about electronic recycling—1.855.TV.Recycle (1.855.887.3292). Questions can also be emailed to recycle@tceq.texas.gov.
