Mosquito Sample Tests Positive for WNV

Post Date:06/19/2019 10:59 AM

On Wednesday, June 19, the Tarrant County Health Department notified the City of Colleyville that a mosquito sample tested positive for West Nile Virus. The positive sample was collected near Milton Drive. This is the first sample that has tested positive for West Nile Virus in Colleyville in 2019.

The test site will be treated with larvacide and is scheduled for continued treatment and testing.

While the City is proactively working to control mosquito populations throughout town, citizen involvement and personal protection is essential. The best defense is to practice these habits, known as the "Three Ds":

  1. Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  2. Dress in long sleeves and long pants when you are outside.
  3. Drain standing water where mosquitoes breed. Common breeding sites include old tires, flowerpots and clogged rain gutters.
