Home MenuUrban Forestry
Colleyville’s landscape is one of its many special attributes. We are located in the Eastern Cross Timbers ecological region, where a forest dominated by post oak and blackjack oak provided early settlers with fuel for heating and cooking, timber for fences, tools, and equipment, and habitat for wild game. Today, many of those trees are still here providing for the community alongside the diversity of newer ones that have established naturally or been planted by our residents. While our needs from these trees has changed over the years, they continue to serve and provide for us. Read more about the many Benefits of Trees and a report from the USDA Forest Service on Sustaining America’s Urban Trees and Forests.
The Citizens of Colleyville recognized a need to protect this resource in 1993 and adopted our first ordinance regulating the removal of trees. Today we have an Urban Forestry section in our Land Development Code that balances conservation and enhancement of our urban forest with development and re-development. With the help of residents, businesses, landowners, and professionals we can ensure this vital resource will sustain and continue to provide for future generations.

For Builders and New Development
The Arbor Day Foundation has, once again in 2024, recognized the City of Colleyville as a Tree City USA community. This represents the 26th year Colleyville has earned this designation. We are proud of this recognition and continue to work toward the preservation and planting of new trees across our great city. Thank you to all who join us in celebrating our trees. They are an environmental and beautiful addition to our community.
