Prescription Drug Disposal Program

The City of Colleyville has several ways to safely dispose of prescription drugs: Drug Drop Box, TakeAway Envelope and DEA Take Back Days.

Responsible disposal of unused medication is an important step toward reducing the risk of child poisonings, drug abuse, water supply contamination, and other hazards.

Drug Drop Box

The Colleyville Police Department has a Prescription Drug Drop Box located in the lobby of the Justice Center at 5201 Riverwalk Drive. The box can be accessed during the Justice Center's business hours.

The drop box is a secure container into which certain medications can be placed for proper destruction. There is no charge to use the service; however, it is intended for use by Colleyville residents only and is not available for business use.

Acceptable and unacceptable forms of medications available for drop off are listed below.
Acceptable Medications – Prescription medication, pet medications, prescription patches and vitamins.
Unacceptable Medications – Needles and syringes, inhalers, aerosol cans, hydrogen peroxide or other chemicals, thermometers, ointments, lotions or liquids.

TakeAway Envelope

The City of Colleyville also provides a convenient and safe way to dispose of unused or expired medications from the comfort of your home. By using a "TakeAway Envelope," you can easily mail your medications for incineration. The sealed envelopes are incinerated upon receipt. It's important to note that needles and inhalers cannot be sent through the mail for disposal. You can obtain these envelopes from the lobbies of the Central Fire Station, the Police Department, and the Senior Center. Postage for mailing the envelopes is pre-paid and envelopes are free to the public. Envelopes can also be picked up and shared with family, friends, or neighbors that may have difficulty leaving their homes.

DEA Take Back Days

The Colleyville Police Department will continue to host Take Back Days in the spring and fall in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration. Having the drug drop box in place provides a year-round alternative to those events.
