The reconstruction of SH26 is one of the largest road projects in city history. The state completed Phase I of the project, from Colleyville's northern limit to John McCain Road, in early 2016 and began work on Phase II from John McCain Road to Brown Trail in spring 2016. The Texas Department of Transportation will construct SH26 into a six-lane roadway with raised curbed medians. The project features approximately 23 lane miles of new roadway, drainage system improvements, approximately 4.8 miles of 8-foot-wide sidewalks, eight signalized intersections, and a bridge over Little Bear Creek.

Construction Timeline

TxDOT anticipates completion in 2019. TxDOT will manage lane closures to reduce impact on traffic during peak travel times.

July 2019 TxDOT Update

TxDOT made a presentation to Colleyville City Council in July with updates to the construction timeline. At the time of the presentation, TxDOT was not able to provide answers to many questions and concerns city council members had regarding the progress being made.

Mayor Richard Newton followed up with a series of questions. TxDOT's response can be found below.
